International Institute
Friday-Saturday, 19-20 June
National Exhibition Centre
The International Institute informs past, current, and incoming RI officers of new developments in Rotary policies and programs. The focus is on developing resource people who can share what they learn with their clubs and districts.
Eligibility
The International Institute is open to past, current, and incoming RI officers and their immediate family members only.
Cost
A US$200 fee applies for attendees and guests and includes the International Institute welcome reception. Additional fees apply for the institute luncheon and dinner.

International RYLA
Thursday-Sunday, 18-21 June
International RYLA is an invitation-only event where young leaders celebrate Rotary’s commitment to youth. Participants learn advanced leadership techniques through interactive training exercises. During small group breakout sessions, participants explore and discuss current issues and topics pertinent to leadership in a global society.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible to participate, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30
- Have extensive experience with any Rotary or Rotary Foundation program, including Interact, Rotaract, local district RYLAs, Youth Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholarships, and Rotary Centers for International Studies
Please note that all applicants must be sponsored by their local Rotary clubs or districts to be selected for participation. For more information on the application process, please download the 2009 International RYLA Guide .
Cost
A US$200 nonrefundable registration fee includes room and board at the International RYLA venue from 18 to 21 June, admittance to the RI Convention immediately following the event, and transportation to and from the event.
Please note that housing, meals, and transportation will not be provided after the close of the program on 21 June. We will work with participants who plan on staying in Birmingham to attend the convention to secure accommodations in advance.
How to register
If you wish to apply or sponsor an applicant, please download an application below and submit it with all required signatures to RI headquarters by 15 December. Attendance is limited to 150 participants, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, so apply soon!

Rotaract Preconvention Meeting

Want to strengthen your Rotaract club? Learn more about Rotaract service projects? Build lasting friendships with fellow Rotaractors from around the world?
If so, you’ll want to attend the 2009 Rotaract Preconvention Meeting and discover how Rotaractors can Make Dreams Real . At the meeting, participants will discuss a wide range of topics relevant to Rotaractors today, in small workshops and presentations designed to support and enhance the Rotaract activities underway their communities. Keynote speakers include the leadership of Rotary International.
Eligibility
The Rotaract Preconvention Meeting is open to all Rotaractors and Rotarians. Rotaractors are encouraged to participate in the RI Convention , 21-24 June, directly following the last day of the meeting.
Cost
The meeting is free to all convention registrants. Registration discounts are offered through 31 March. Register by 15 December to receive the lowest rate.
How to register
Registration for the meeting will be accepted via mail or fax only (online registration is not available for Rotaractors). To complete your registration, download the Convention Registration and Ticket Form and submit it to your nearest RI international office along with the registration fee.
Please note that registrants who are citizens of countries requiring a visa to visit the United Kingdom will automatically receive a “letter of invitation” from RI in PDF format along with their e-mailed registration confirmation. If you have any questions about how to apply for a visitor’s visa, please visit the UK Border Agency visa Web site .

Simultaneous interpretation
Simultaneous interpretation in Spanish will be offered for a nominal fee for all plenary sessions and certain workshops.

Rotary Alumni Celebration

The Rotary Alumni Celebration is an opportunity to reconnect with Rotary, learn about service opportunities and ways to get involved, and celebrate experiences and achievements. This year's event includes notable speakers, breakout sessions, and social gatherings for Foundation alumni and friends.

Eligibility
The celebration is open to Rotary Foundation program alumni and Rotarians and their guests.
Cost
Tickets for the alumni celebration are US$25. Rotarians, Rotary World Peace Fellows, and Foundation alumni must register for the RI Convention in order to attend the Rotary Alumni Celebration. A greatly reduced registration rate is offered to Foundation alumni from Rotary year 2001-02 or later. See the Convention Registration and Ticket Form for details, including eligibility information.

Rotary World Peace Symposium

The Rotary World Peace Symposium is for Rotarians and Rotary World Peace Fellows and alumni to connect over issues related to peace and conflict resolution. It includes plenary sessions, prominent speakers, networking opportunities, and admission to the Rotary Alumni Celebration.

The symposium is open to Rotary Foundation program alumni and Rotarians and their guests.
Cost
A US$200 fee includes admission to the Rotary Alumni Celebration. Additional fees apply for the symposium luncheons and dinner. Rotarians, Rotary World Peace Fellows, and Foundation alumni must register for the RI Convention in order to attend the symposium. Youth Exchange Officers Preconvention Meeting

The Youth Exchange Officers Preconvention Meeting at the 2009 RI Convention brings together Rotarians involved in the Youth Exchange program. Meet new and old friends, discover new ideas, and make connections for future exchanges.
A leaders' meeting and welcome reception are tentatively scheduled for 18 June. The traditional Youth Exchange officers banquet is planned for 19 June.
Eligibility
The meeting is open to all convention registrants.
Cost
The meeting is free for all convention registrants. Registration discounts are offered through 31 March. Register by 15 December to receive the lowest rate.
Youth Exchange students (18 years and under) are welcome to register at a reduced rate.

Housing information
The designated hotels for the Youth Exchange Officers Preconvention Meeting are the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport and the Ibis Birmingham Airport Hotel. The Birmingham Convention Bureau will handle all individual and group housing requests. Reservations will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis.
