2008 Rotaract meeting

Want to strengthen your Rotaract club, learn more about excellent Rotaract service projects being carried out right now, build lasting friendships with fellow Rotaractors from around the world, and celebrate Rotaract's 40 ^th anniversary? If so, you will definitely want to attend the Rotaract Preconvention Meeting at the 2008 RI Convention in Los Angeles,USA, and see for yourself how Rotary Shares through its focus on service and young adults!

At the meeting, participants will have the opportunity to discuss in small workshops and presentations a wide range of topics relevant to Rotaractors today. All the presentations are designed to support and enhance the current Rotaract activities underway in your community. Keynote speakers will include Rotary International leaders. 

Cost and deadlines
The Rotaract Preconvention Meeting is free to all convention registrants.  Be sure to take advantage of the early registration discounts. Rotaractors who register prior to 15 December 2007 will pay only US$60; registration after that date but prior to 31 March 2008 will cost $80; those who register on-site will pay $100.

How to register
Registration for the preconvention meeting will be accepted via mail or fax only (online registration is not available for Rotaractors). To complete your registration, download the Convention Registration and Ticket Form and submit the completed form to RI. 

Please note that registrants who are citizens of countries requiring a visa to visit the United States will automatically receive a “letter of invitation” from RI in PDF format along with their e-mailed registration confirmation. If you have any questions about how to apply for a visitor’s visa, please visit the U.S. State Department Web site.

Simultaneous interpretation
Simultaneous interpretation (SI) will be offered in Spanish for all plenary sessions and certain workshops. Personal radios for SI will be provided for a nominal fee.

Social events
The LA Rotaract Host Committee is organizing optional social events for Rotaractors from 12-17 June 2008. Tentatively planned events include numerous networking opportunities at local hot spots, a service project at Griffith Park with Shane’s Inspiration, a star-studded behind the scenes tour of Sony Studios, and an honorary luncheon to celebrate the 40 ^th anniversary of Rotaract! 2008 International RYLA

12-15 June, 2008

The International RYLA is a special, invitation-only event where young leaders from all across the world come together to celebrate Rotary’s commitment to youth. This year’s event runs from 12-15 June 2008 in Los Angeles, immediately preceding the RI Convention. 

Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to learn advanced leadership techniques through interactive training exercises. While breaking out into smaller groups, participants will also explore and discuss current issues and topics pertinent to leadership in a global society.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible to participate, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be between the ages 18-30
• Have extensive experience with any Rotary or Rotary Foundation program , including: Interact, Rotaract, local district RYLAs, Youth Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholarships, and the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies program

All applicants must be sponsored by their local Rotary club or district to be selected for participation. For more information, please download the 2008 International RYLA Guide. Please note that the application deadline has passed and we are no longer accepting applications for the 2008 International RYLA.

Cost
There is a $175 non-refundable registration fee required for all participants. This fee includes room and board at the International RYLA venue from 12-15 June, admittance to the RI Convention immediately following the RYLA, and transportation to and from the Los Angeles airport and convention center at the beginning and close of the program.  

Housing and meals, and transportation will not be provided after the close of the program on 15 June. We will work with participants who plan on staying in Los Angeles to attend the RI Convention from 15-18 June to help them secure their own accommodations well in advance.

2008 Youth Exchange officers meeting

12-14 June 2008

The Youth Exchange officers preconvention meeting at the 2008 RI Convention is the perfect opportunity to meet Rotarians from all over the world involved in the Youth Exchange program. You'll meet new and old friends, discover new ideas, and make connections for future exchanges.

Location
Preconvention meeting sessions will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on 12-14 June 2008. A leaders’ meeting and welcome reception are tentatively scheduled for 12 June 2008. The traditional YEO Banquet is planned for 13 June 2008.

Cost
The Youth Exchange officers preconvention meeting is free for all convention registrants. The lowest registration fees may be enjoyed through 15 December 2007 and preregistration closes on 31 March 2008 . Youth Exchange students (18 years and under) are welcome to register at a reduced rate.

Registrations will be accepted via mail, fax, or through on-line registration.

2008 Rotary Alumni Celebration

13-14 June 2008

Alumni are important members of the family of Rotary. Keep them connected to Rotary by participating in this first Rotary Alumni Celebration. Attendees will hear prominent speakers, participate in stimulating workshops, and enjoy networking opportunities. A reception will be held in their honor. Districts are encouraged to send at least one former scholar and one former Group Study Exchange team member to this event. Interested alumni should contact their Rotary Foundation alumni coordinator.

2008 International Institute

13-14 June 2008, with opening reception on 12 June
Los Angeles, USA

The program, which will feature keynote speakers and opportunities for discussion, focuses on Rotary's five core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. Confirmed speakers include Past RI President Clifford L. Dochterman, Water Resource Group General Coordinator Ron Denham, and Past District Governor (D-2220, Western Russia) Andrei Danilenko. Simultaneous interpretation will be offered in Japanese.

The International Institute will provide you with a unique opportunity to share Rotary. You can take what you learn during this day and a half and use it to inspire and motivate the thousands of members of the Family of Rotary, who will be attending the RI Convention.
