I n August 1928, Canadian Rotarian James Wheeler Davidson set sail from Montréal, Québec, with his wife, Lillian, and teenage daughter, Marjory, on what was to be an eight-month voyage to organize Rotary clubs in the Middle East and Asia.
It turned out to be a nearly three-year odyssey during which he chartered 23 clubs in 12 countries, from Turkey to Thailand. He is admired as the man responsible for making Rotary International a worldwide organization.
