Consider a gift to The Rotary Foundation from your IRA
Rotary News -- 7 January 2013
The IRA charitable rollover is a provision that allows certain individuals in the United States to make tax-free distributions of up to US$100,000 from an IRA directly to charity.
This provision has been extended and the opportunity to use the rollover is set to expire 31 December 2013. If you would like your gift to count for 2012, there is still time to make a direct transfer to The Rotary Foundation -- if the gift is received by 31 January 2013, it is recognized for tax purposes as a 2012 gift.
If you are at least 70 1/2 you can consider an IRA charitable rollover. This is particularly beneficial if you do not need the additional income generated by the required minimum distribution, you do not itemize deductions, or you want to use an extra source of assets to secure your personal Rotary legacy.
