Rotary is an organization of business and community leaders. Generally the age range is above 30. So no, you don’t have to be a Rotarian. If you are interested in joining a Rotary program and getting involved before an exchange there are a couple options available to you including RYLA, RYPEN, and INTERACT. (email me if you’d like more information on any of these programs) What is a Rotary Youth Exchange? A Rotary Youth Exchange is where you travel to another country for a school year to study. Youth exchange years are from August-July and January-December as most northern hemisphere school years run August-July and most southern hemisphere school years run January-December. The purpose of Rotary Youth exchanges is for you to travel to another country, learn a new language, culture, and way of life. It is an amazing opportunity that thousands of youth participate in every year. You may travel between the ages of 16-18 and you are gone for an entire year. How to apply: Rotary is split into many Districts around the world. Each District runs a Rotary Youth Exchange programs. Not every club participates in the programs but most do. Every district has a different application process which generally starts in September for the following year. The best thing to do is search for clubs in your communities or a large community near you, and get in contact with the club or district to let them know you are interested.
