Is there a book of protocol that we rotarians can use in anniversary celebrations, inductions and rotary affairs. If there is, how can I have a copy?

In July, one of our state'sRotarians made national and international TV shows and newspapers by making an online joke about the US President's wife. Jokes pulled off the Internet in some of our Rotary clubs in our city for have become standard for the "Health & Happiness" portion of our weekly programs, causing embarrassment to members and guests. The jokes have derided people due to gender, nationality, race, political party, and religion. Does anyone have a description of what "health & happiness" should be about? If not, I'm going to make one up to say that jokes are not needed and discouraged and that the speaker should report on any good things that have happened to members and to let us know which members may need our assistance due to illness or some other issue. Does the "joke" problem exist anywhere else or is it just limited to our area? It doesn't build good will and better friendships.

Can anyone educate me on the Rotary protocol when there is a gathering involving Rotary leaders such as DG, Presidents etc and government officials. How should the MC address these people and in what order.

Get you believe this PR Campaign for American Wine. It is the most clever I've seen in years. Cost $60,000. Murphy Goode Winery in Sonoma is taking a different path for promoting it's Sonoma wines - great pay and a free house in Sonoma for the winner of their "Really Goode Job" campaign. This is a very interesting example of marketing, using new social media techniques. Candidates are asked to post a video - one minute only. My son has applied. The link is: http://bit.ly/1604WD - He would appreciate your vote. You may recognize a small cafe in Lyon among some of the pictures he uses - the one with fondue ... or is it Raclette? Can you imagine the response if a French winemaker offered a Chateau in Bordeaux to someone to start blogging for them? Instant communications ... aged wines. Seems a contradiction. Or the Rotary offer an all expense paid trip to "X" for the president of a club that brings in the biggest growth in membership in the upcoming year. That club gets celebrated in the Rotarian and at the next big Rotary annual meeting. It's a new world. Don't forget to vote - you will need to confirm their email to you, but the company does not spam so it's OK.

How do we address a Rotarian's wife/husband, son and daughter? Is it Ann/spouse, John and Annete or is it Ann for both wife and husband and Annete for both son & daughter.

Dear Vats, Congrats to your taking on PR Chair for next term. You should have attended your District's DA (District Assembly) where all incoming officers are given "training" and "briefing" on the 5 service avenues in line with the RI theme as well as your District's theme for next year. In addition, your club president should have given you a copy of the PR Chair manual where you can find a treasure trove of information on what you need to do. This is also available from the RI website's Download library. But to put it very simply - 1. identify your district/club goals, 2. determine your methods of publicity & 3. enlist help of relevant members and people. Have fun next year! Hi there, I am the incoming Chair of Public Relations for my club (Rotary Club of Taipei D3480 ) for 09-10. I have not been able to locate the icon for PR Comm on the RI website. We have Club Svc, Vocational Svc, Community Svc & International Svc - all belonging to the old 4 svc avenues. Now we have 5 svc avenues ie PR Committee included. Can we have an icon for this please? Btw, for the gif files of the 4 svcs, can you give us bigger files please? The icons usually get blurred out on the power point presentations. Not all of us use EPS... Thanks for your help and [hopefully] a speedy response! Thank you!

For many years I have finished off letters and emails on Rotary subjects with "Yours in Rotary" or the initials "Y I R " Recently I have received several emails using the finish "Yours in Rotary Service" Is this simply a Rotarian doing his or her own thing or is this due to some instruction or suggestion from R I. Consistancy is in my opinion desirable.

With the existence of Rotary for over a 100 years now in several countries,,it is amasing that many people even the so called ' exposed 'still do not know what Rotary is all about. This may be responsible for : a. the opting out of some members after staying in the organisation for a w:hile. b.people not willing to share their treasures with Rotary. I think this is where the Effective Public Relations come in. Rotary Clubs should make it as a point of duty to publicise the implimentation of any of their small or big projects either on Radio,TV and the Local News papers even though these are major projects on their own because any publicity at all, costs a lot. January is the Rotary Awareness Month,we should all rise up to the task of publicising Rotary in our Communities. NB: Could you please connect me with a Rotary Club in the SW28 0EE London,UK.for me to fellowship now that I am here on a few weeks visit? my email addy : adefumn@yahoo.com and Mobile phone no.07543301570 or my son's mobile phone:07863554681 Long Live Rotary as we Make Dreams Real

Hi there Rotarians, I'm specifically speaking to the rotarians of 6440, 6450 districts. My name is Lonny and I am a speaker who delivers a really neat presenatation on memory training. I've done this program for a number of rotary clubs and I understand that your clubs are always looking for a good fun and FREE speaker to visit a meeting. I'd love to talk to you about visiting your group. I'm not selling anything just trying to get some exposure and experience at my talk. Seems like a win/win. The talk is a really fun one to give and it will certainly make you think differently about how your brain works. Email me or call me if you are interested in having me come to talk to your folks. GvR -- Same problem here. I understand that the site's SEARCH feature (top of the page) should help locate pages -- try using the titles of the previous pages as keywords. Good luck (I'm really hoping we'll get used to the new site soon!).
